A critical component of Social Studies education is the development of social consciousness and awareness of world issues. Students are expected to apply classroom learning to the world around them by the regular study of world events. Discussion of current world events and issues is a weekly requirement and will be graded. Students should be prepared each Monday with an article and outline of a major world event or issue; they should also be prepared to share these with their classmates. The articles must be kept in a folder and will be collected and graded regularly. Frequently, a topic will be assigned by the teacher. All work is graded for both content and grammar and mechanics.

Students are to arrive to class on time, prepared to learn and with all necessary materials. Class activities may include lecture, discussion, individual work, group work and research. Students are required to exhibit behavior consistent with learning.
